Here's how the two compare. Both are Seeed Studio reServer industrial edge AI servers (full systems), built on the same fanless industrial chassis with identical I/O: 5x GbE with 4x PoE, 6x USB, CAN, mPCIe + M.2 slots, SIM, DIO, 12–36 V input, 128 GB onboard storage, −20 to 60 °C, and 5G connectivity — the difference is the Jetson module inside.
| reServer industrial J4012 | reServer industrial J3011 | |
|---|---|---|
| Jetson module | Jetson Orin NX 16GB | Jetson Orin Nano 8GB |
| Memory | 16 GB | 8 GB |
| AI performance (INT8, sparse) | 100 TOPS | 40 TOPS |
| Chassis / cooling | Fanless | Fanless |
| Operating temp | −20 to 60 °C (requires airflow) | −20 to 60 °C (requires airflow) |
| Lifecycle | Active | Active |
Which one for small retail: the J4012 is the stronger unit — 2.5x the AI throughput (100 vs 40 INT8 sparse TOPS) and double the memory, which matters if you're running multiple camera streams for people counting, queue monitoring, or loss prevention at once. The J3011 is the lighter option: if your deployment is a single lane or a couple of low-resolution cameras with modest models, its 40 TOPS and 8 GB may be enough. Since both share the same chassis, PoE ports, and mounting (Desktop / DIN rail / VESA), the choice comes down purely to how many concurrent video analytics workloads you expect — when in doubt for growth headroom, the J4012 gives you it.
A couple of details worth noting:
- The TOPS figures are INT8 (sparse) for these Orin-based systems, so compare like with like against any other Orin product.
- The J4012's FP32 figure is 1.88 TFLOPS; the J3011's FP32 figure isn't listed in the catalog data I retrieved, so I can't quote one for it.
- Both share the same datasheet (J4012: product page; J3011: product page).
